Precaution

Looking at the height of the mountain, it is not easy to climb as it is steep at some points but that shouldn’t scare you, it is rather fun with the help of our tour guides. That notwithstanding, you must have a well fitting pair of shoe in good condition and a walking stick to support. For the very fit, there is a possibility to hike a little further to the next mountain right behind Afadjato called Aduadu.

Wli Waterfalls

Wli Waterfalls also known locally by the people of the Volta Region as “Agumatsa” which meansAllow me to flow, is a popular and and the most exciting tourist site near the village of Wli which is also not far from the Togo border. It is also believed to be the highest water fall in West Africa with a height of 143 meters.

Located in the Hohoe municipality of the Volta Region, approximately 280 kilometers away from the capital Accra is the best kept secrets by the people of the Volta Region. Most tourist make the easy walk to the lower falls, which is mostly a flat trail but stunning and beautiful in setting, made even more dramatic by the presence of thousands of fruit bats nesting high up on the nearby cliffs. However, the equally high and much more isolated upper falls is a special treat for those with the stamina for the challenging hike. There are inviting pools at the base of both falls where the hearty can take a chilly dip.

Also close to the waterfall is the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary, which features more than 200 bird species and 400 butterfly species. You’ll find no better swimming vacation experience throughout the season than at Wli Waterfalls with its natural and refreshing flow of water from the mountain top.

Wli Waterfalls is open all year-round but mostly impressive from April to October, when you can hear – and feel – the flow of water thundering down as it plunges down directly before collecting into a large pool below, exactly at the foot of the mountain. The hike to the upper falls is normally too slippery and treacherous during the rainiest months.
